Egyptian Hip Hop - Tobago
Premiere from new LP, Good Don’t Sleep

It’s been three years since Egyptian Hip Hop released an under the radar 4-track electro pop masterpiece called Some Reptiles Grew Wings. I’d begun to forget about them and I certainly wasn’t expecting a full length after such a long retreat. I like the new album, Good Don’t Sleep, but I think any fans of the EP aren’t immediately going to love the album.
I read a recent Loud and Quiet interview with Egyptian Hip Hop, mostly discussing their challenges with blowing up (in the UK) at the age of 17 (srsly), and the setbacks a band must overcome when getting pigeon-holed into a super intertube hyped single at such a young age.
Alex Hewett expressed his concerns about being labeled with a certain sound so early into their band’s career, and part of the delay in the full length, seems to be purposely done to let their initial UK hype die down to allow the band to release to fresh ears.
That being said, while I think the first EP is brilliant pop, the full length seems to be taking a new direction that may not be so immediately catchy or radio ready, but stands up on multiple listens with a new sound of maturity and depth.
