Teen Daze - Classical Guitar
Check out a brand new track from Teen Daze, from his just released The House On The Mountain, a digital 4 tracker up download from his BnCmP here for only $4, and all the proceeds will go to his wedding budget! Help a brother out. I’ve always enjoyed evolving releases since the epic Beach Dreams EP.
The House On The Mountain was recorded in March of 2013; I recently moved into a house situated on the side of Sumas Mountain, in my hometown of Abbotsford, BC. Inspired by the overwhelming beauty of the changing of the seasons outside, and a big empty house with lots of kitchen ware that has been dying to be sampled, I pieced together these tracks over a few weeks. The final piece of the puzzle, and one of the most unique to any Teen Daze recording, is the guitar playing. I would spend the day putting together the beat, and after a morning in the kitchen, I would ask my roommate David (also the bass/guitar player for the live Teen Daze band you’ll be seeing later this year) to just improvise over-top of the beat. I’d sample his playing, and a quick mix later, we had a song. Then we’d usually go eat pizza and talk about video games. I’m lucky to have such a talented friend, and I’m sure this won’t be the last collaboration you’ll hear between us.
I hope you enjoy this little slice of Spring in British Columbia; here’s to afternoons spent in the flower garden!
ps - All proceeds made off this record will go towards my wedding budget. Love you bean!
I saw this up before over at Lefse and I’m not sure if I missed before…but this is available on one sweet cassette for those of you that still have a cassette player (I know you’re out there!) Only 6 clams and no shipping charge! I stock up on cassettes for summertime boomboxing, its most fun.
Teen Daze - A Silent Planet cassette is available here.
I made a mix for my friends over at Mixtape Mountain. It’s called Splendid Isolation, and as well as having six of my favourite songs, it also has a poster designed for each track. So go check out some great music and some of my design work! ~Teen Daze
P.S. I’ve released a free LP from my side project, Two Bicycles, and it’s called Window. Download it for free here. ~Teen Daze
Oh yay a new cassette from everyone’s favorite summer dream pop master Teen Daze is being released on Waaga Records. Not that I don’t have some special love for cassettes, I only wish that TD would put some tunes on wax. But yes, Yay cassette!
A Silent Planet cassette (and the continually archaic compact disc) are available to pre-order through Lefse right now here.
Also apparently pre-orders will recieve a special surprise.
Found this new space dance jam in the ol inbox this morning from Tiny Human and I’m always down for more Teen Daze. Not even really sure who this Bravestation is, but their sound is definitely melting with TD in a majorly good way. Snatch the remixes and original tracks here. The Toronto based band Bravestation definitely has in my opinion a very Modest Mouse sound to them, and I’ve kind been on an old school MM kick lately so it works out.
I know chillwave is a dead horse; people are already sick and tired of talking about the merit of the genre, and whether it will last and all that. With that being said, I know what these tracks are, and I know what label or genre they’d fall under. But when I listen to these tracks, I hear my friends: I hear Persona La Ave and Blackbird Blackbird; I hear Memoryhouse and Aidan Knight. I hear my influences: I hear J Dilla and Madlib; I hear Baths and Star Slinger. So call it chillwave, call it beat-hop, call it whatever. Just think about what, and who, you hear when you listen to it. ~ Teen Daze
Well spoken Teen Daze. Couldn’t have said it better myself. I whole heartedly agree on the annoyance of chillwave labeling, witch house, or being labeled anything for that matter. If you like how it sounds, screw categorizing the genre, just enjoy it. Its just one step away from wasting your life rating your itunes library of 17,350 songs with those damned five stars.
<3 the Memoryhouse sampling in this track.
Download both the digital tracks, Together b/w Something, from Teen Daze’s new digital label Cultus Vibes via band camp here.
I’ve been following one man wonder, Teen Daze for probably about 5 months now since his Four More Years EP, and he’s surprised me with two more releases to finish out the year. A month ago, 4 track EP Beach Dreams appeared on his Band Camp, then as a new years present he released My Bedroom Floor. Thirteen dance infused pure pop tracks for all your party pleasures. It saddens me that this isn’t really a debut full length, but more of a release of old material. Grab it here from Band Camp, or via what.
“My Bedroom Floor” is a collection of songs that were written between January and April 2010. It was in the process of writing these songs, that I also wrote the 8 songs that would later appear on Four More Years. Those 8 songs were intended to be a part of this record, which I was recording for a different project of mine, when the whole Teen Daze thing took off. ~TD
That being said, this is still fantastic, and I can’t wait for more new material. I hope his next release shifts to more danceable pop, but with the accompanying lyrics to back it up. The vocals are best.
Sorry to be a tease and post something after its sold out…but I do very much enjoy this electronicness. The tape is sold out, but you can download it on what. Also as a warning, I pre-ordered it from Arcade Fire Sound back in August only to find out recently that they pretty much scammed everyone and never pressed the album. Please refer to to the good man that runs Wonder Beard Tapes for all related pleasures.
P.S. To anyone that was excited about Apple’s mysterious teaser on Sunday about the Big Monday announcement….I <3 apple and all, but seriously guys I was thinking something news worthy. Maybe cloud tunes or the resurrection of simpifly media. Nope. Nada. Instead you can buy The Beatles on friggin iTunes for too much money in a lame DRM ridden overpriced format. Why not pick up a copy of the white album at your local record store for 10 bones instead? Eh?
