Sweet Baboo - If I Died…

Sometimes a video can be so over-the-top absurd that it really brings the whole thing together.  One look of
Stephen Black’s (aka Sweet Baboo) floating ghostly visage edited in over some VHS footage and I was about through…but I stuck it out, and by the time the girl is 8bit keyboarding jamming I’m kind of in love with the video.  Sweet Baboo have a whole slew of sold out records that you can still grab digitally from their bNdCmP here.

Egyptian Hip Hop - SYH

Neither Egyptian or hip hop…

Back in 2010 four 17 yr dudes (^^^) hailing from Manchester released a phenomenal 4-track 12” EP (OOP) called Some Reptiles Grew Wings on Moshi Moshi that went largely unnoticed.  Just take that in for a moment, 17 fucking years old. Okay, so I grabbed a copy because at the time I was (still) obsessed with Summer Camp, who had just released their debut 7” there as well, and I was hungry for other finds from Moshi Moshi.

Some Reptiles Grew Wings was a terrifically strong debut from a new band, offering an insanely catchy pop combination, something akin to a cross between Starfucker & The Strokes.  Having not heard anything from these guys in years, I had assumed the one time EP was it. Yet seemingly out of no they’re slated for a full length release come 10/22.  To be honest I hadn’t checked up on them in a while, but I’m just so psyched to see an album on the way, and soon.

Seriously this is some potentially viral shit we’re talkin about here, so go snag a download of Some Reptiles Grew Wings to keep you occupied till October.

Egyptian Hip Hop - Good Don’t Sleep 2XLP is out 10/22 from R&S Records, but shipping to the states is atrociously $$$ (£10-15) so looks like Norman Records has the best deal.

Summer Camp - Outside

Premiere from Always EP

Summer Camp are an unstoppable force.  On the heels of their first full length, a month later they’re already working on a respectable 20minish EP, five tracks full of music heading in a very different direction.

The first two tracks to surface from the EP sounded more or less like the Summer Camp I’ve come to love, including Always (with the awesome hostage n cake eating music video) and Life, maybe the home run single.

Outside is the last track on Always, and it seems like its the culmination of a building momentum across this little EP, gettin to a frantic pop dance beat.  This one sounds like such a departure from the slow scratchy tracks of three years past, and I don’t say that with any negative connotations.

It reminds me of old Of Montreal at their best circa Satanic Panic in the Attic or The Sunlandic Twins.

Honestly I think this EP is an excellent mixture of the new and old sound, and as long as they don’t lose their roots completely, I’m down for speeding up the rhythm.

Summer Camp - Always EP 12” on Ltd colored vinyl and signed is sold out.  You had your fair warning, but you can still grab it on plain Jane un-autographed vinyl here.

Set to be on constant rotation soon as the vinyl arrives here.

Summer Camp - Always

Brilliantly disturbing new video from Summer Camp, featuring a new track from the upcoming Always EP out early July.  A day in the sun, following Elizabeth & Jeremy road tripping the VW bus, at the arcade, eating cake, and murdering their ransom hostage before burying the body.  Simply adorable.

Their other released single conveniently is Always, which they recorded in french as well.  Super rad check it on SnDcLd here

Summer Camp - Life

Total double song post on the new Summer Camp 12” on the way, but as I have been obsessed with these two forever rescind my apology.  This second single sent courtesy of Moshi Moshi is track one from their Always EP, to be released on Ltd colored 12” vinyl on July 9th.  I was searching futilely for a pre-order link to this supposed colored vinyl, and had just about given up when I saw the email from Moshi Moshi, complete with a link to pre-order signed copies of the 12”.  I should’ve know Apricot Recording Company, who released the vinyl version of Welcome to Condale would be handling this as well.  Can’t imagine signed Ltd copies of the 12” will last long once word hits the street post holiday weekend they’re for sales.

Visions Of Trees - TURN 2 U

Looks like these kids have some new tunes since last we heard their excellent Sometimes it Kills 7” from Moshi Moshi.  Has a completely different feel from that first single, and its looks like they’re drifting toward a much more industrial electro dance beat based sound; see The Golden Filter or The Knife.  I enjoy this, and I’m looking forward to see what else comes from the drastic transition.

Summer Camp - Losing My Mind

Ugly xmas sweaters, fancy cats, goth girls, and bad hs photos for all!

(p.s.kind bugs me they uploaded this to some wannabe vimeo service, that has ads and isn’t as smooth.  meh.)

Summer Camp - Losing My Mind (Dawn Golden & Rosy Cross Remix)

Not usually a big fan of remixes, but this one offers an interesting take.  Check it.

FaDeR sayz:

Dawn Golden and Rosy Cross offers a downcast remix for Summer Camp’s oddly ebullient breakup song, “Losing My Mind,” skewing the tone more appropriate to the refrain: This house isn’t big enough for the both of us. The remix will appear on the band’s “Losing My Mind” EP, out March 19th (US) on Moshi Moshi.

Summer Camp - Bloody Nose demo

Caught them live at Glasslands last night in BK, one of only four US shows, and their second time in the states. Amazing live show.  They are fucking brilliant and I’m a sucker for them.

Summer Camp are best.

Casio Kids - London Zoo (Le Mouv’ Session)

Recorded live at Radio France, Paris 17 November 2011.

I’m really digging to new Casio KidsAabenbaringen over aaskammen LP from Polyvinyl.  That label has the highest quality vinyl for the price of anyone.  Srssly, $14 bones for Reflex blue vinyl 2XLP Ltd to 500 copies?! Can’t be beat.  Their poppy but kind of dark and sinister tunes really get your dance movin.

Summer Camp - Nobody Knows You

I’d say this is the darkest tune from the new record.  A good one for this pre-Halloween hour.

I simply love Elizabeth’s voice, and after some heavy listening of the new record, I’ve come to a decision.  The album as a whole is delivering.  Yes yes, hands down.  But just the couple of tracks where Jeremy takes the lead singing…I hate to say I could just do without that.  Her voice is just too perfect and I simply identify Summer Camp as Elizabeth singing.  Srsly pick up your own copy of Welcome To Condale on vinyl from Amazon.uk here.

P.S. There’s currently only 5 copies left.  I’d say the demand for this on vinyl is way higher than they anticipated…

Summer Camp - Summer Camp

I can be a real serious bitch…if I don’t get what I want.

This one I had a bootleg of sometime last year maybe? Sounds so much better when its legit.  I absolutely love the sample voice over at the start.  With every listen the new album gets better.  Can’t wait for my vinyl, too bad I can’t bust it out at my Halloween shindig this weekend :( Guess I can’t always get what I want.

Also its snowing outside. Fucking real snowing, not bs fake flurry nonsense.  I live in NY not Iceland.  In my opinion snow is useless unless there’s enough for me to ride.  Guess we’ve having a white Halloween.  Hope your costume is warm.

Slow Club - Where I’m Waking

I dig the new single from Slow Club, too bad among the slew of different compact disc release types you can get (bonus disc, blah blah blah—> on what 2 weeks ago…) and even a damn play button, but no vinyl.  Sad kittens.
