Ruby Pins - Chameleon

Solo record from Lillian Maring, drummer/singer of Grass Widow

M’lady’s Records:

M’lady’s Records is incredibly proud to introduce the debut album from RUBY PINS, borne out of the dreams and hard work of Lillian Maring. Written over the past three years, recorded on an old computer with just one SM58 microphone, and played almost entirely by Ms. Maring, these songs sound like almost nothing else we’ve heard.

Inspired by dreams friends have had about her, and informed by the spirits of Eno, Jacques Dutronc, and Catherine Ribeiro, this record has a deep individualistic streak, and imagination by the ton. There’s an other- worldliness to the album, the kind of echoes that can be felt usually in certain films, a special kind of logic that gets under one’s skin. Recorded mostly in the beautiful town of Port Townsend, Washington in the summer of 2012, Lillian enlisted some instrumental help on certain songs from Hannah Lew (her bandmate in the estimable and much-beloved GRASS WIDOW), Fiona Campbell, Jen Weisberg and Brett Lyman, but this is really ‘a solo trip’, as Neil Young once put it so eloquently.

M’Lady’s consistently releases such fine records, and I’m happy to see a new solo for from Lillian of Grass Widow is the latest gem.  Having seen the girls of Grass Widow play at least half a dozen times, and once with The Raincoats, I’m pretty die hard.  Lillian’s track and video (she directed it) live up to the quality I’ve come to expect from a Grass Widow girl.  Can’t wait to hear the full length!

Ruby Pins - s/t LP is also available on cassette and will be shipping mid June.  Order yours from M’Ladys here.

Coasting - For Hours

Sarah Manuwal made it in cahoots with the group, and it’s their first to feature non-animated Fiona and Madison!

Got to catch them on tour with Grass Widow a couple months ago, and its nice to finally see their faces in a video.  You should totally snag a copy of their full length LP You’re Never Going Back from M’lady’s Records here. Not sure if they still have copies of the pretty clear gold vinyls left, but you can always ask; those kids at M’lady’s are alright.

Finally Punk - Primary Colors

The fine people over at M’Lady’s Records always release undeniably great records.  This punk foursome from Austin tear it up with 26 songs on this LP combining all three of their singles plus two unreleased songs that are covers of Nirvana & Prima Donnas.  Check out a couple more tracks at M’Lady’s SnDcLdPregnant is classic, and definitely has some heavy Raincoats/Liliput influence if you’re into those chicks.

MLADYS 2.5 / ABL-015 - Finally Punk - Casual Goths LP is available on wax now from M’Lady’s here.  Album comes with live videos & tour films! How fun.

Grass Widow - Disappearing Industries

Latest single to be released by the fabulous Grass Widow girls, coming out as a Ltd 7” split w/ Nature (another great band same label) on M’Lady’s Records.  The 7” will be 1000 press, but the 300 come in hand-marbleized and letterpressed sleeves (see Polaroid above ^^^, marbleizing done by Grass Widow, letterpressing by Iris Porter).  Now I highly recommend picking up a copy quick quick from M’Lady’s directly asap, not only because those guys rock, and the records will fly, but M’Lady’s only has 100 copies for sale.  I’m assuming the rest will go to the band.

While you’re there, grab a copy of Julianna Barwick’s debut LP, Sanguine finally released on LP, originally only available on compact disc (shudder).  The LP is mastered by Paul Gold for maximum swoon, and sleeved in a chandelier encrusted with gold foil.  That one is also Ltd to 1000 copies, with the first 100 copies on white vinyl, only from M’Lady’s.

Both Grass Widow/Nature 7” and Julianna Barwick’s Sanguine LP are available here from M’Lady’s, shipping February 28th!

Coasting - Portland

Clay-mation and Coasting, what a dreamboat.

Caught the girls of Coastinga few weeks back at a show opening for Grass Widow, and it was killer cool.  These babes have their first full length out on M’ladys, my copy is amber cloudy wax, not sure if there are still fancy copies left but regardless is a gem of an LP.

Coasting - You’re Never Going Back LP is available here
