Fear of Men - Seer

Fear of Men are best. Been saying it, nuff said. Their latest video shows off Jess traversing a foreign world in astronaut garb, exquisitely shot. The opening view with her approaching from a distance in silence is perfect, her first steps on a desolate world no longer inhabited by anything less than bees. Do nab their single compilation from Kanine Records, Early Fragments, and be grateful that all the Ltd 7” & cassette gems have been collected in one place for easy consumption after the fact.
Their debut LP will be epic.
Catch them at Glasslands in NYC March 19th and you won’t regret it, I know I’ll be driving in on a Tuesday for it.
Fear Of Men - Seer

My most anticipated album of 2013 is without a doubt from Fear Of Men, and they’re kicking off the new year with a 12” comp for all you people that didn’t originally snatch up and clutch to your chest each precious 7” and cassette of theirs. Fortunately for those of us that have the 7”s, there will be one new track on it, Seer, and Doldrums from the stupid Ltd to 50 Alice Munro Demos cassette. Kanine Records is releasing the whole thing on pretty marbled vinyl, and you can thank FOM for the preview.
Fear Of Men - Early Fragments 12” on Ltd marbled teal vinyl is up for pre-order directly from Kanine Records here. Ships February 12th.
Fear of Men - Early Fragments

So maybe you’re sick of reading my gushings over Brighton based Fear of Men, but I’m far from through. Of their two cassettes and three 7”s, all but the last release are sold out OOP. Kanine Records to the rescue! Host to a choice couple of favorites (see Eternal Summers & Reading Bleeding Rainbow), they’ll will be re-releasing those 7”s, with track listing in reverse chronological order, and topped with a new unreleased track called Seer. The advanced notice just went out to their email list today, with a release date set for February 12, 2013. Guess we’ll have to wait a little longer than I’d like for their full length, likely due sometime in the spring/summer ‘13. Fear of Men will also be following up this release with their first live appearances in the US, including SXSW, although I currently don’t have any details on the other US locations.
Fear of Men - Early Fragments compilation LP will be on marbled vinyl and is up for pre-order from Kanine here. Fear of Men is the stuff dreams are made of.

Fear of Men - Mosaic

Fear of Men is one of the very best new bands of the past year. I’ve been hypnotized and obsessed from the first listen just prior to the release of the Alice Munro Demos cassette about a year ago, and their videos are feat of beauty to match their music.
This is a video largely dominated by still images, where only the slightest body movements, or dust particles can sometimes indicate it is in fact video. The imagery of the church, the passing & pouring of a bowl filled with inky water, the camera still as Jess comes into focus, you can tell every single shot was captured with the utmost care. Quality > quantity is certainly the rule they live by, and unfortunately it leaves us always wanting more.
Fear of Men - Mosaic 7” is out on Ltd hand-numbered turquoise vinyl from Too Pure now. Get their singles now, because by the time they release a full length these first 7”s will be worth their weight in gold.
Fear of Men - Your Side

B side to Mosaic
Released on Too Pure on the 15th of October on Ltd blue vinyl 7” and you can pre-order it for cheapest from Piccadilly here.
Can’t get enough of that sweet sweet Fear of Men, sigh.

Fear of Men - Doldrums

live for Bowlegs Film
Srsly last Fear of Men video, but to be fair this is my favorite song of theirs, originally out on a super Ltd and now OOP cassette.
Fear of Men - Mosaic
The a-side from a 7” released by Too Pure on 15th October on Ltd blue vinyl. Every single released by Fear of Men has been pure gold, and this latest single is no exception to the rule. Pre-order your copy from Piccadilly Records here
Fear of Men - Paradise

This month’s theme song comes courtesy of Fear Of Men. The Brighton-based band–Jessica Weiss, Daniel Falvey, Alex Flynn-O’Neill, and Michael Miles–formed just last year, and Jess and Dan wrote and recorded the dreamy “Paradise” within 24 hours of wrapping up a tour with Best Coast. Enjoy!
Coincidental back2back track posts from Rookie Mag as they hit a double with Fear of Men following Dum Dum Girls. Can’t seem to get enough Fear Of Men. Cassette & 7”s be on constant repeat. Grab their new Ltd 7” on Sexbeat here.

Fear Of Men - Green Sea

Super Rad. As I’ve said before, Fear of Men is my favorite new artist of 2011/2012. I was jammin out to my cassette on my road trip to Canada this weekend and it sounds amazing as ever. Cannot cannot cannot wait for a full length.
Almost thought it was the same director as for the equally fantastic Tops’ Rings of Saturn video, but guess they just both used a VHS camcorder. Tops have slot #2 for best new release this year with their vinyl version of Tender Opposites on Atelier Ciseaux, Ltd to 250 copies on red Vinyl.
Fear of Men - Green Sea 7” is Ltd to 300 copies on white vinyl and available to pre-order from Sexbeat here. This one will sell out sooner or later.

Fear of Men - Born

Totally psyched to see the b-side to the upcoming Fear of Men 7” drop today. With only 2 stupid Ltd cassettes (50 each) and once 7” before this one, they seem to have proven their merit to accompany Best Coast on tour in the UK, as well as a show with Purity Ring.
Seriously my most anticipated full length of 2012 is Fear of Men. It was last year too, so lets hope they crank it out this year.
Fear of Men - Green Sea 7” is still available to pre-order, Ltd to 300 copies on white vinyl. Definitely will sellout.

Fear of Men - Green Sea

Since the Hannah Schygulla Demoscassette I have not been able to get enough of these British kids. I was hoping for a full length last year, but instead was teased with single cassettes and 7”s. This is now officially my most highly anticipated artist of 2012, and with good reason.
Fear of Men - Green Sea 7” SEXBEAT 013 is up for pre-order now from the label, out June 18th and Ltd to 300 Copies on white (?¿) vinyl. It’ll sell out as band momentum builds, just like the last one did
Fear of Men - Heretics
Premier 1st Here

Loving this new already sold out Alice Munro Demos Cassette from Fear of Men, and at just under 10min, it’s more a tease than anything else. I’ve just flipped the tape over for the third forth time and I can’t get enough. I keep kicking myself for missing their first cassette, but at 50 copies a piece what can you do? If you simply can’t live with some tunes from these kids, their Ritual Confession/ Spirit House 7” on Italian Beach Babes is currently available here. Not likely for long.
Full length in 2012? One can only hope. Fingers crossed.
