Cults - Go Outside

So finally this song gets an official video, only more than a year after debuting on Bandcamp.   It is epic.

Cults - Bad Things

One more brand new one from Cults.  The Cults LP is most excellent and can be found here on vinyl here.

Cults - Walk At Night

So the Cults LP finally leaked, which isn’t that big a deal really seeing as NPR has been streaming in its entirety.  With so much hype so early on for a band that had one 7” and less than a hand full of songs, I was worried about the LP holding up as a whole.

Not disappointed in the least.

For those of you interested in grabbing the physical release, it comes out one week from today, June 7th, and you can grab it from insound here.  Sucks that Columbia is putting it out and charging highway robbery for the vinyl, I hope the band is getting a decent cut.

Chains Of Love - Breaking My Heart

More retro pop ala Cults, but with what sounds like a more sinister and raw edge.  As much as I love pop, in this case less pop = more.  Chains Of Love have a Bandcamp up with 3 songs for free download here, so what’d you got to lose.  I’m getting major vibes from Los Saicos, which is always a good thing.  Check out their debut 7” Ltd to 500 with the first 200 copies on white vinyl.  If you catch them at a show you can even catch one of 100 hand written TEST PRESSINGS.

Chains Of Love - You Got It Ltd 7” available from Hi-Scores Recording Library here

Cults - Abducted

Pretty rad high quality vid from our favorite pop duo.

Cults s/t LP is shipping around the June 6th mark, pre-order from Insound here.

Guards - Don’t Wake the Dead

I had downloaded the Guards EP recently because I saw that there was a track featuring Cults, and I can’t get enough/wait for their debut LP.  So admittedly I hadn’t much listened to it excuse the Cults track, until now.  Kitsuné sent out one of their many email blasts and lost among the clutter was the Guards EP.  And yes the whole EP is quite outstanding far beyond that one track, excellent electro pop dance tunes for every occasion.  Don’t Wake the Dead sounded so familiar, and I’m only just realizing now that it was on the last Kitsuné Maison Comp #10.  Say what you will bashing Kitsuné, their mixes are still ahead (albeit slightly) of music trend curves.

What really caught my attention on this release was not the free download via bandcamp here, but the 200g 12inch Guards EP, Ltd to 500 copies.  Do you realize how heavy 200 gram vinyl is?? Its like an inch thick, any thicker and your turntable slows to a turtle crawl under the weight.  Its for people that just need to one up 180g vinyl.  3 Syllables Records is releasing this one here, a little pricy cause of the euro exchange deal, but nonetheless I’m surprised these aren’t already sold out.  Guess the physical release is slipping under the radar, so get on it.

Cults - You Know What I Mean

Been jamming on Cults for what seems like an age now, and its crazy after only releasing a couple tracks via one OOP 7 that they get signed to Columbia Records for their debut LP.  I was worried that their new material wouldn’t live up to the notorious Go Outside track, but damn this new one rules.

Slow dance soundtrack from 1953.  Grab your girl and spin away to dreamy tunes soaked in shining vocals.

Cults - Go Outside

Can’t believe Cults are on MTV with only one 7” and a couple of tracks.  Ridiculous.  Grab the Limited to 1000 repress of the long out of print Go Outside 7” from Pure Groove hereFirst pressing was of 500, with 100 on blue vinyl.  Sure glad I scored that blue one from Rough Trade.  This is now the 3rd pressing, trust me it’ll go again.  This of course debuted the Forest Family Records label, and is still their best release to date.

Also, this video is absolute perfection.

DOM - Bowl Cut (Feat. Cults)

DOM and Ayad of Passion Pit met on Cinco de Mayo 2K10 at a show in Boston. They partied it down and decided to do a single together. A few months later Ayad, DOM and drummer Bobby were in a Brooklyn studio laying down tracks. DOM called up Madeline and Brian of Cults to come hang for the session. They recorded some vocals and group claps. Here is the result.   “luv it or h8 it” – Dom.

You can grab their most excellent EP, Sun Bronzed Greek Gods here from the good ol’ boys of insound.  Its a gorgeous heavy 10” record on marble violet vinyl, or at least it was when I ordered it form the band many moons ago.  Funny that they’re releasing a reissue when insound still has copies of the original, but I imagine there can’t be many of those left so grab one while you can.  The reissue is on white vinyl.  Completely underrated album from ‘10 and among my tops, so join in on the fun.

Listen to more track via their sound cloud here, Living in America is another standout, but I Wonder is still best.  That last one blew my mind last summer when I picked up a cassette from them, #10 of 12 with a j-card sleeve stamped with lobsters.  I think the back story description from them was they were to be given out at a show that got busted by the cops?? Please hit me up if you know that whole story, much love. xo

SLEEP ∞ OVER - The Key

A new short & sweet pop tune from the furtive but lovely SLEEP ∞ OVER, one of the earlier bands of recent to make use of incoherent symbols in a more conservative manner.  They have a long gone 7” from Forest Family Records, definitely the second best release from those guys after the Cults Go Outside 7”.  Apparently Cults got a hot LTD to 500 repress so act quick here if you missed the boat months ago.  Also if you still got a hankering for some SLEEP ∞ OVER try their C20 cassette from Night People or 7” with Pure Ecstasy from Light Lodge

whew.
