Wet Hair - Camouflage

Cool kids Wet Hair have released their third LP, Spill Into Atmosphere, on De Stijl.  They’re had a couple releases on Night People including a split 12” with Naked On The Vague, which was when I first learned of them.  Psychedelic / experimental / drone, I would say.  Most mesmerizing.

Wet Hair - Echo Lady

Cool kids Wet Hair have a new LP available now from De StijlWet hair has released a number of experimental vinyls via Night-People & Not Not Fun, but listening to the album now I feel that they have finally found the right combination of experimentation and accessibility.  Not Not Fun also recently released a 7” called Radiant Lines that comes with a full color pro printed 20 page artbook.  Its sold out from Not Not Fun, but if you’re lucky Midheaven has a copy left here.   This is their first LP to feature the band as a trio.  The LP also comes with an 8 page offset printed art zine by the band.

Weyes Blood - Candy Boy

My interest has been growing in Not Not Fun has been progressively growing these days with killer limited releases from from the likes of Maria Minerva (cassette) that sell out in a flash and are hard to come by afterwards.  Their biggest release of late has got to be Peaking Lights 936, which is back in stock and Ltd to 600 copies.  Most recently my attention was drawn to the decadent Wet Hair 7” + art book release.

…a preferential suite of some of their finest (and, till now, unseen) compositions in a glossy, full-color, pro-printed 22-panel art volume, bookended by a brand new black vinyl 33 RPM single of joyously multi-hued keys/drums merry-go-rounding...a slow-motion Suicide-style sweetheart blues trance, buried vocals crooning in a gentle sea of woozy keyboard grooves.

I got into Wet Hair from their split with Naked on the Vague, and going in line with physical music and vinyl I totally dig on some well done zenes.  Ltd to one time pressing/printing of 500 copies.  Apparently they have a full length coming up this summer, so keep on a look out if you dig their tunes.

But the tune above in the (sorry) youtube video is from new kid on the block Weyes Blood, apparently sister of Raw Thrills/Greatest Hits homie Zak Mering.  She has a classical, mourning sound, and reminds me much of Angel Olson.  WellThe Outside Room LP from Weyes Blood is already out of stock with “more to come soon from NNF,” but if you can’t wait and want one of the first run Ltd to 480 black vinyl in jackets with cool screengrab/photocopied artwork by the artist, plus an 11x17 lyric sheet/mini poster

Wet Hair - In the Garden of the Pharoahs

Long-in-the-works 100th release for the endlessly epic Night People label is a split 12 inch with NP bosses Wet Hair on the A and Australian ghost-rock duo Naked On The Vague on the B. Prime split LP from Iowa City’s Wet Hair and Naked on the Vague from Sydney Australia. Both bands have a slew of releases on a host of good labels but this might be the best offering from both yet. The release feels cohesive despite being a split long player with the similarities in aesthetic ideas and sounds of the two groups being taken into consideration. Despite both bands recently taking on new members beyond there duo origins both stick to the duo lineup for this release. Wet Hair is at their most composed taking on more pop sensibilities then prior recordings, focusing on the melodies both vocally and musically but retaining the psychedelic pulse of older material. Naked on the Vague follow with the focus on melody but draw things out as well into instrumental addition and subtraction, letting the effected variety of sound sources battle it out only to decay together in the end.  Clear vinyl in radical screened sleeves by Shawn D. Reed.  Grab your copy here from Not Not Fun.

Wet hair’s 1st two vinyls available here, with their 2nd LP Glass Fountain on opaque lavendar vinyl.

A split 7” from Wet Hair and Rene Hell is available from Bathetic here.
