Yay new Starfucker video premiere from NPR.

Starfucker - Atlantis

Starfucker is one of the most underrated electro pop bands, and I fucking love them (minus the fact that they’re continuing to go by STRFKR instead of STARFUCKER).  The video is delightfully weird as always, filled with fun imagery, and backed by a track from the stellar new Miracle Mile LP,out now on Polyvinyl. The first Ltd pressing on red & green vinyl is sold out, but you can still grab it on 180g cream vinyl here Highly recommended, and make sure to check out their even more awesome debut s/t album resurrected by Polyvinyl after originally being Ltd to 500 & OOP from Badman Records.

Starfucker - While I’m Alive

From upcoming new LP, Miracle Mile

Starfucker have a new album entitled Miracle Mile, out for release 2/19 on beautiful 180g red & green vinyl (A/B is green; C/D is red) as well as cassette (red tape), and digital formats. The red & green vinyl is limited to 1,000 copies, with the rest on cream and only available through Polyvinyl directly here.  The new track sounds fantastic, and I’m happy to see these guys continuously pushing out new material.  Starfucker also have just announced a month-long US tour w/ Blackbird Blackbird beginning Feb 26th in Seattle, WA at The Neptune.

Sorta side note, I just wish Starfucker didn’t have to keep calling themselves STRFKR just because people can’t handle the FUCK.  I mean seriously, I understand that they resorted to that after the ill-thought campaign to change their name because they couldn’t get booked for any shows with profanity in their name: brothers gotta eat.  By all means posters, show promotions, bookings, whip that STRFKR tag out…but on their own goddamned website and label they can’t be listed by their actual name?  Four albums later, I think they’ve at least earned that right.

Too much? It’s been a pet peeve of mine for a while considering their 1st LP was one of the first records I ever bought and their name was have the draw.

Starfucker - Rush Rush (Paula Abdul)

***Update: Originally they had the whole album as a set which I posted, but someone killed it :( All the tracks are still on their SnDcLd page here, just inconveniently not collected together***

Starfucker side project called Sexton Blake releases covers album on vinyl.

Polyvinyl:

In 2007, Josh Hodges (mastermind behind Starfucker), was asked by his friend to quit his job so he could record an album of cover songs.  “It was actually my friend’s idea,” Hodges says. “He wanted to hear what some of these songs would sound like if I performed them. I thought it sounded like a fun idea.

What grew out of that proposition is Sexton Blake Plays The Hits.  With covers ranging from Elton John to LL Cool J, ELO to Milli Vanilli, this album is a perfect snapshot in time that shows how Hodges would go on to approach his own songs under the Starfucker moniker. “It’s a pretty funny selection of songs, some ridiculous and some legit,” he explains, “I had a lot of fun making this record.” Now available for the first time ever on vinyl via Polyvinyl Records, Sexton Blake Plays The Hits will be released July 17 on 180-gram, gold vinyl and limited to 1000 copies. Pre-order your copy here.

Been a long time Starfucker fan here, as their 1st s/t LP was one of my first records ever purchased.  Cool concept here, and it sounds excellent.  Definitely a great move streaming the whole thing up front, love when bands pull that.  I normally frown at covers, but its hard impossible not to appreciate this release.

Seriously the song choices are amazing; Milli Vanilli, Erasure, Paula Abdul, LL Cool J?!?  Songs that I didn’t like the originals, I’m bobbing my head to Josh singing now.  This material also predates that first Starfucker LP (2008), giving us a little window into the past.  I can hear the beginnings of similar guitar rifts to come on the s/t LP a year later.

Glorious.

Starfucker - Dragon Queens (Skeletron Mix)

New Starfucker Ltd 7” split w/ Champagne Champagne to drop on PolyvinylAccording to Pv, The A-side features STRFKR’s “Dragon Queens” which became a crowd favorite during the band’s Spring 2011 tour in support of their last album, Reptilians. A different version of “Dragon Queens” will be featured on the upcoming STRFKR full-length, slated for release in early 2012.

New Starfucker LP early 2012?!  Hot damn I feel like Reptilians just barely came out, which is a totally solid sophomore release.  In fact much better than I was expecting, which was no followup, after that ill-fated name change debacle.  Well their debut s/t LP was absolutely epic (hint hint for those of you that didn’t know it existed, Ltd to 500 white vinyl), so I’m glad to see they’re goin strong.

Starfucker/Champagne Champagne split 7” Ltd to 100 copies on clear green vinyl is available directly here

P.s. absolutely love Starfucker album art, it kicks!

Starfucker - Helium Muffin

Scoping the Polyvinyl collections this weekend and found a new Starfucker 7” with an exclusive b-side featured here tonight.  Polyvinyl is always solid for having super reasonable vinyl, and usually all heavy 180g at that.  While you’re there check out the Starfucker, sorry STRFKR, blend coffee being put out by Intelligentsia Coffee here

Stone fruit, ripened kiwi and fig. Plush, sumptuous and juicy with a weightless finish of butterscotch.  Contains whole beans grown in Bolivia, Colombia, and El Salvador.

Srsly? Ys. Bt dmn, ds snd tsty.

So five bones get you the Julius 7” here

Starfucker - Hungry Ghost

So as I’m posting the deal on Deerhoof yesterday, I notice two most curious things on the Polyvinyl site:

A new Starfucker LP, Reptilians is being released 2/25.  You can grab it here on 180 Gram clear vinyl, limited to 700.  Even includes an 18”x24” poster, and you get an immediate digital dl of the whole album all for $14 bones.  <3<3<3 you Polyvinyl.

AND its being released under Starfucker, obscenities and all.  Caution to the wind! Fates be damned!  ??? So Starfucker held an ill advised contest to change their name because it was getting blacklisted from tour posters about 15 months ago.  For a brief stint they went by Pyramid, or some crazy purposeful misspelling of it.  But all is well in the world, for Polyvinyl let them return to their roots, and as for the posters they’re going by Strfkr in writing.  Not too bad.

So Reptilians is still sinking in, and I’m enjoying it more by the minute.  I think the track above Hungry Ghost, stands out for both its poppy fast electronic beats, and the tactful use of random voice sampling.  I guess what I’m saying is it most reminds me of their debut s/t Starfucker LP, on pretty white heavy vinyl from 08’.

If you missed that one, it is fucking amazing, get it now.  No offense to those that like the Jupiter EP, but it kinda blows.  Maybe the only decent track on it is Biggie Smalles, but come on, covering Girls Just Want to Have Fun, Heh.  And I only say that after a conversation last night with a friend who only knew the EP and liked it.  If you have fallen victim to the same injustice, help yourself and listen to their debut best.
