Keep Shelly In Athens - Madmen Love
Mmm can’t ever get enough Keep Shelly In Athens, and until the full length comes out from Cascinelater this year, we’ve got a fresh super Ltd to 300 7” featuring this track, and a b-side. One time pressing, with some on color vinyl, likely will sell out like every other one of their releases. Grab the Madmen Love b/w Time Exists Only To Betray Us 7” fromSixteen Tambourines here
Check out Angel Olsen’s latest breath taking track, fresh off a limited to 250 copies 7” due for release from Sixteen Tambourines January 15th; pre-order now. Very happy to see her getting more exposure, especially from NPR, cause she makes freakin gorgeous music that deserves to be heard. Strange Cacti remains one of my all time favorite records/cassettes, and I appreciate that Sweet Dreams is a little more raw, like her debut. Half Way Home was an excellent record, but I it sounded too cleaned up for my taste and I found myself just continuing to return to Strange Cacti. Here’s hoping the next record sounds as good as this 7”.
Super cool split with Total Slacker and Friends covering each others songs on super Ltd glow-in-the-dark vinyl! Extra rad. This has been up on their label unavailable for sale, and it just went live. The 7” is Ltd to 500 copies, with only 100 on glow-in-the-dark vinyl, so if you want them fancy 7”s act fast! I caught Total Slacker on tour with Widow Speak earlier this year, and it was a fucking insane show. I’ve never seen someone actually all out destroy a nice guitar, usually just the fake I’m gently nudging my amp with it. Seriously some chick after the show grabbed his guitar neck as a prize, like it was a set list! These guys won me over on site when i saw their jurasssic park shirts. They even mailed me show shirts on recycled shirts post show and they showed up in a generic Raisin Brand box, and guess what they glow-in-the-dark too.
So end of story: Total Slacker are fucking awesome. They love glow in the dark shit. They eat generic raisin brand.
The first new release off Old English Spelling Bee in 18 months, just in time to knock your socks off. Those haunting snyths immediately drew me in, and once the vocals to match come in, the deal has been sealed. I am in love with this one, as I play it through a forth time in a row. I recognized the name from a now sold out cassette by her bout 5 months ago on Sixteen Tambourines. This release sounds pretty different, but certainly for the better. New one reminds me a lot of Nikki Never. Check Alice’s BnDcMp here.
Alice Cohen - Pink Keys LP Ltd to 500 copies available from OESB here. All pre-orders between now and June 12th will receive a special xerox art-zine by Alice. It’s 16 pages and is printed on multi-colored paper. You can grab a peek at a couple pages of the zine HERE.
Psyched to see the latest cassette installment from Sixteen Tambourines, is from a new artist for me. Comes in a super Ltd edition of 50 cassettes, bundled with a tee-shirt. Very 90s punk girl pop, really just fantastic all around.
Alice Cohen - Wild Vines and Tenement Shrines Cassette & shirt is available here
Picked up this 7” recently from sixteen tambourines while picking up some cassettes I’d been meaning to grab. The cover art of the 7” (see below) has really peaked my interest as I had never heard of the band, but knowing that sixteen tambourines has put out some solid releases including ones from: Coasting, Tennis, Keep Shelly In Athens, Little Girls, Mathemagic, and Pigeons, I took a chance.
It sure is a good one. Has kind of retro pop feel with a Zombies edge. Never hurts to take a chance an a 7”.
