Sculpture - Side A (Excerpt) from Slime Code LP

So I’ve gone on about Sculpture’s zoetrope picture discs they’ve released via Dekorder over the last few years.  Those picture disc were some of the early round examples that set the scene for increasingly rad & absurd vinyl concepts (see ice record previously).   While I fully admit I was originally drawn in via the unique format of the zoetrope release, my taste in experimental electronic has expanded over the years, gradually sucking me into some weird ass stuff.  This latest Sculpture release is a tome of brilliant experimental sounds, and easily the best iteration as their format has matured and continued to reach for new strange heights.

Sculpture are constantly reshuffling the decks, though, and just when you think you’ve settled into a particular groove, they’ve moved onto new underwater explorations. It’s playful and incredibly engaging. Sure, they may be fucking with you, but it’s so much fun you can’t help but dive in anyway. Ahead, industrial beats pound out four-to-the-floor rhythms while layer-upon-layer of digital squelch is parsed into vivid imagery. It moves with such pace that it’s hard to get a breath. This is music that has an alternate life in the visual world - you can see it as well as you can hear it. It will envelop you until you can’t help but drink it all in.

Not to mention that the vinyl release is spectacular, as I’ve come to expect from Sculpture, zoetrope or not.  The presentation is minimal, and I love that the vinyl color matches the album title.  Slime is an all around fitting description.

Sculpture - Slime Code LP is being released by Digitalis on Slime Green vinyl and is available from their BnDcmP here.  Vinyl ships around January 22nd, but you’ll get a digital dl in two track format (sides A & B) for immediate listening pleasure.

Sculpture - Elk Cloner

Elk Cloner appears on TOAD BLINKER, a psychophonotropic picture disc LP by music and animation duo, SCULPTURE, Dekorder records, October 2011.

More excellent experimental electonics from Dekorder, this time the sophomore release by audio/visual extraordinaire Sculpture.  This is their second psychophonotropic picture disc LP, and with a little bit of strobe magic and/or a video recorder, you can make the animations come to life.  I’m such a sucker for creative LP concepts, and zoetrope picture discs are among the coolest.  It helps to back the concept with engaging music.

Sculpture - Toad Blinker Picture Disc LP should be still available from Dekorder here

SCULPTURE - Rotary Signal Emitter
Picture-Disc LP

Prepare yourself for the coolest vinyl you’ve ever seen…simply spectacular zoetrope picture-disc from Sculpture.  Similar to zoetrope from The Octopus Project & their quality recent release, except forget cutting, pasting, or assembling your zoetrope; it is the record itself.  So while you’re listening to the strange amalgam of found sounds consisting of found tapes, lo-fi electronics, computer programming, and analogue noise across 1⁄4” tape loops, hardware sampler, cassette walkman and CDJ deck, you’re watching the visual animations on the spinning picture-disc itself.

This is blowing my mind.

Only 300 copies which I imagine will disappear quicker than ever.  Order from here by emailing Marc at m@dekorder.com to request a shipping price.  Album is only €16.00!?! I sent a request for shipping to NY, and I’ll update with the price for yall
