Novella - Mary’s Gun

Novella released a fantastic and highly overlooked 12” in the past year, and I’m happy to see they’re following it up with a new 7” on Italian Beach Babes:

A track about Shangri-Las lead singer Mary Weiss and her run-ins with the FBI (Mary started carrying a pistol around once someone had tried to break into her hotel room), the new 7-inch was recorded by Jerome Watson of The History of Apple Pie and Joshua Third of The Horrors in The Horrors’ studio.

Novella - Mary’s Gun 7” is Ltd to 300 copies and out 11/26 and up for pre-order now.  The s/t 12” also got repressed on Lilac vinyl and you can pick both up as a package from Italian Beach Babes if you missed it the first time around.

Novella - You’re Not That Cool

Yep we (royal) like Novella here. Have and will.

Italian Beach Babes:

I went down to Novella’s practice room recently and hung out for a few hours to shoot a very impromptu session with them.

You’re Not That Cool is the final track on their S/T EP which is now onto its second pressing. (http://italianbeachbabes.bigcartel.com/product/ibb018-novella-ep)
The band are taking a short break from playing shows to write and record a new single which will surface before the year is out.

Novella - Eat Yourself

previously here

Normally I’d post some new random pic from my sEcReTz archive, and even though I posted it last time, this simply beautiful album art deserves to be up again.  Just received my Novella 12” in the mail today from Italian Beach Babes, and it’s better and longer playing than I would’ve imagined.  The longer playing I only note, because @ a 5-track EP this baby clocks in at nearly 27min, longer than many full lengths these days.  Quantity over quality never dictates, but when you get amble of both its perfect.  I’m quite surprised to see this sold out all over the place including all my usual distro haunts that tend to have a copy or two after the labels out. *Update some copies remain directly from the band.*   The vinyl is heavy weight 180g, with a super glossy cover art slip cover. I’d say it reminds me of early Dum Dum Girls, mostly clean sounding all girl vocals, but not overly studio polished (like in my opinion the lastest LP from Dee Dee).  This is definitely gonna be on heavy summertime rotation!  The vinyl came with a digital download, so that should be floating round the tubes soon enough.

Definitely keep an eye on the label; Italian Beach Babes seem to be be on a roll with 3 stellar releases including Dirty Beaches, Fear of Men, and now Novella.

Novella - s/t EP is Ltd to 300 copies on heavy weight 180g vinyl and still available from the band here

Novella - Don’t Believe Ayn Rand

I love everything about these chicks off of Italian Beach Babes (Fear Of Men, Dirty Beaches).  The music is my ideal girl vocal driven pop punk, akin to earlier (& better) Dum Dum Girl releases.  The artwork is super rad, and definitely befitting of the music. AND the song title?!  Fucking brilliant, super witty.  I wanna see them kick it live…

Check out more tracks on their SnDcLd here, solid, every last one.

Novella - Novella EP  IBB018 is a five track 12” destined to please out on Italian Beach Babes now, and the girls themselves are currently on tour with Veronica Falls
