Looks like after being asleep at the wheel for the past 8 months, cool kids Forest Family Records are releasing a new edition to the family.  This one will be the first physical release from D I A N A, as a 12” single of born again backed by a rad doldrums remix.  The track is infectiously good, and when it first came out I had it playing on repeat for weeks.  A little sad to see its only a single, not even an EP or anything, but guess beggars can’t be choosers.  The vinyl will be Limited to 500 copies in typical FFR fashion, with some undisclosed amount on pretty mint green vinyl.  Insound & rough trade have pre-orders up, but I’d just wait and snatch up one directly from Forest Family.   Record drops January 21st..

Keep Shelly in Athens - Struggle With Yourself 12”

Yep I mentioned this one about a month ago, but its nice to see a new track finally drop from it as wellThis track seems to be quite a departure from even their current EP release on Forest Family; darker, more static.

Keep Shelly in Athens - Campus Martius E.P. just dropped Monday 12/5, and you can still pick it up on blue vinyl (?) here directly from Planet.Mu.  Just in case you missed the last KSIA 12” to sell out instantly.

Tennis - Deep in the Woods

An unsettling new video from Denver’s Tennis: “Deep in the Woods” appears on the band’s limited new 7″ single, out today on Forest Family. Based on Shirley Jackson’s novel We Have Always Lived in the Castle.

Tennis - Origins / Deep in The Woods 7” is not quite sold out everywhere and you can snag a copy here from Plastic in Paper.  The new 7” is Ltd to 1000 copies on blue vinyl, featuring this non-LP track backing Origins.

Tennis - Origins

I’ve been hearing rumblings of the new Tennis LP in the making and sure enough their sophomore effort, Young and Old will come out on Fat Possum this Valentines day 2012.  The album is produced by The Black Keys’ Patrick Carney.  While you’re pining away for more sweet pop tunes from Alaina & Patrick you can snag the above Origins b/w Deep In the Woods 7” via Forest Family Records.  This 7” in on blue vinyl and Ltd to 1000 copies sure to disappear quick.  Definitely irks me that its $10 for a 7” from insound.  Plus shipping.  wtf.  Damn doug, that record better be 200gram vinyl that that cost.  Maybe it won’t be gone quite so quickly ha.

Tennis - Origins b/w Deep In the Woods 7” is availble for pre-order from insounderz or Paper in Plastic is $4 cheaper between shipping and cost (every penny counts), but the pre-order button ain’t up just yet.  Stick it out.  The 7” drops December 6th.

Keep Shelly In Athens - Fairytale

Been waitin for a while for the new Keep Shelly In Athens record to drop and it surely doesn’t disappoint.  Nice to see some more variety already springin up after only an EP release, and I feel this track particularly highlights a segway into some more electronic beats.

These kids have plenty up their sleeves, and I’m certainly surprised to see not one but two practically simultaneous EP releases on separate labels.  These kids are sure confidant. I like.

Keep Shelly In Athens - Our Own Dream 12” is unfortunately already sold out and OOP unless you know something I don’t. Yeah kind of ridiculous but it was Ltd to 500 copies (white & silver vinyl, 250 of each)

… . .

So now for the secret (?) bit.  They have another 12” releasing in mid-December that may still be under the radar and/or >500 pressing on Planet Mu.  A unique 4-track EP, no bs repeats or remixes; legit.

Keep Shelly In Athens - Campus Martius E.P. 12” is available for pre-order hereLikely gone quick so act fashionably if ya want one.

Tennis - Tell Her No (Zombies cover)

Tennis said:

We will be announcing a Forest Family release in the next couple of weeks as well as tour dates to make up for the Vaccines tour cancellations. Also, we are excited to announce the existence of our next album (produced by our new friend Patrick Carney) coming out early  next year. In the meantime, we made this cover of the Zombies “Tell Her No.” It’s been a long  time favorite of ours and is the best use of a lone-clap we’ve ever heard.

Word of a new Forest Family 7” release, new album this winter, and an excellent Zombies cover.  Couldn’t ask for more, cept for maybe the album right now. <3

Keep Shelly in Athens - Our Own Dream

Forest Family favorites from last year Keep Shelly In Athens are due to follow up their very OOP In Love with Dusk 12” EP with a new EP entitled Our Own Dream.  Slightly strangely, it seems they’re formed some deal to have pre-orders with “local record stores,” and sell very few copies through their site.  So far the only place I found them for sale is at Insound.  Very local. Oh Well.

Here’s what the kids at Forest Family have to say about the new EP:

The Grecian downbeat-pop duo meanders through almost-forgotten electronic salad days and R&B beats of yesteryear. Melding an Ibizan ethic with new age, atmospheric synthesizing, KSiA continues to push the convention of electronic music to the brink, a challenge to the Balearic norm. Like their previous releases, the duo continues the erotic down-tempo tones and visceral back-beats, however at times Our Own Dream heats up—containing well-formed torrid, trance beats to compliment the soft female vocals.

I’m most excited about this one. <3<3<3

Keep Shelly in Athens - Our Own Dream

New haunting track drops from Keep Shelly in Athens.  Keep an eye out for the latest Forest Family Records release, Our Own Dream 12″ EP, complements of none other than Keep Shelly in Athens.  Prolly be awhile seeing as there’s no word on the label as to even a pre-order yet.

In the meantime, you can pick up another semi-secret super Ltd cassette split release from KSIA and Disclosure being released by Loud and Quiet Cassettes.  Shipping 8/29 and Ltd to only 75 copies!

Sleep ∞ Over - Romantic Streams

New Sleep ∞ Over oh joy!  Since their debut very OOP Outer Limits 7” that kickstarted the Forest Family lineup, these kids have been on a non-stop roll of sick cassettes and 7”s.  All their releases are very much sold out, and I imagine their LP will be no different if its limited in any way.  The Casual Diamond 7” from Hp sold out quick with 1000 copies, and on heavy magenta wax its a beat (my copy was on repeat for weeks after receiving it).  Keep an eye out for their Forever LP, out September 27 on Hippos in Tanks

Eternal Summers - Childs Mind

Hot damn dog, nice to see the new Eternal Summers Prisoner EP leak so quickly on what.  Digitals not supposed to ‘hit shelves’ until April 19th.  Kinda funny that this being released on 10” when the whole deal is under 10min true to Eternal Summers style.  Hmm why not a 7” EP like their debut release Season EP  on Meal Deal Records which was a whooping five track white 7” limited to 300.  Seems like they might even have a few left (??) try your luck here.  These kids are are just pure pop magic.

Grab the Prisoner EP via everyone’s most blogged about mirco-label Forest Family Records hereThis 10” vinyl is white and Ltd to 300 copies.  It’ll probably sell out super quick like all their releases.  Except for that Dent May one which I was not into at all and apparently no one else was either.

While you’re there, snatch up the Earth Girl Helen Brown 10” as well, it kicks ass!  I got mine last week and was unprepared for the level of excellence it provided.  I think this is the sleeper hit of FFR, and I’m amazed they don’t list the contributing artists on the info page.  Did you know all the songs were written by Sonny Smith ala Sonny and the Sunsets, and vocals include Grace & Heidi from The Sandwitches.  Yeah so all you sandwitches fans from the start (this kid this kid), this pretty much sounds like a secret sandwitches record.  Kinda into it more than their new LP.  White 10” vinyl limited to 500 here.  gogogo

Keep Shelly in Athens - Hauntin’ Me

Really gettin into this new deal from Keep Shelly in Athens.  Their debut OOP release came from good ol’ Forest Family Records, and tryin my best, I simply wasn’t impressed.  Yet this new track Hauntin’ Me, is speaking to my tastes and sounds a bit more…Memory House? if that means somethin to ya.  I’m happy to see that Transparent Blog is releasing a Hauntin’ Me b/w Song To Cheer You Up 7”.  As always with tb releases, you can pick up that physical copy on vinyl from pure groove here, ships 2/21.  All tb releases are limited to 300, and considering the fast sellout rate from the last 500 press, I’d act quick.  Also this is kinda an advance headsup, cause its not even listed on tb yet.

Boy Friend - Lazy Hunter

Mmmm new Sleep ∞ Over side project recently emerges from the depths as Boy Friend.  They have a beautiful ghouly vocal laden EP up for dl from their Bandcamp here for $4 bucks.  Honestly this might as well be Sleep ∞ Over; same members, very similar (and awesome! I might add) sound…If you missed their OOP 7” debut as Sleep ∞ Over earlier this year on Forest Family Records, too bad, it was a keeper.  You can still grab their 7” split with Pure Ecstasy from Light Lodge here.  Oh Sleep ∞ Over you crazy kids, why you gotta be all up in changin your name like that?

Keep Shelly in Athens - Running Out Of You  (Memory Tapes Version)

Love me some Memory Tapes, and this version of a song by Keep Shelly in Athens is choice.  The original band is slated to be the first 12” release on Forest Family, and after short debate, I’m into it.  Has a very laid back mesmerizing quality that reminds me of some Air.  Pre-order that badboy here. Also more importantly, if you missed out on the vinyl version of Memory TapesSeek Magic this summer, grab the repress from Insound here.  No lies, probably one of the best albums of 2009, at least one of my favorites.  It was originally pressed on Dark Blue Vinyl & Limited to 1000 Copies, with the first 300 White/Blue “Haze” Vinyl from Acephale Records, I was lucky enough to get one of those haze copies.
