EAGULLS - Coffin

Always funny when similar labels/bands come full circle. As I’m checking out the latest London DIY upstart, EAGULLS, I realize I actually picked up their second 7” split with Mazes when ordering the last Dirty Beaches 7” from Italians Beach Babes. I was all about that one for the Mazes tracks, little did I know…
Many of my favorite records are 7”s, and while it may seem a major pain in the ass to change your record every 2-5min (only sometimes, and it helps to have a player that stacks them), the whole ritual can be very satisfying. Not to mention, the usual limited nature of plenty of small releases, the inevitable b-side, or vinyl only tracks not found on their album counterparts. Half my singles are treasured favorite artists I’ve followed from the start, pulling a total completest on. My 1st 7”, and still a favorite, is a Beach House Used to Be single from back in ‘08. Two years before Teen Dream, that song existed as a demo on a little 7, and if you haven’t heard it, its infinitely better than the re-recorded album version. But the rest of my 7s are often unknown artists, including lots of splits, where for practically the same price as digital, you can check out some new artists you might not have known. That Used to Be 7 cost me $3.50 when I bought it with Devotion, so dirt cheap.
The worst/best part about singles, is when the artist doesn’t have any other released material, leaving you hanging on edge waiting for more (Fear of Men). Fortunately EAGULLS is hooking us up with a 5 tracker EP, so you’ll have just a little bit more to enjoy.
