Angel Olsen - Sweet Dreams
Check out Angel Olsen’s latest breath taking track, fresh off a limited to 250 copies 7” due for release from Sixteen Tambourines January 15th; pre-order now. Very happy to see her getting more exposure, especially from NPR, cause she makes freakin gorgeous music that deserves to be heard. Strange Cacti remains one of my all time favorite records/cassettes, and I appreciate that Sweet Dreams is a little more raw, like her debut. Half Way Home was an excellent record, but I it sounded too cleaned up for my taste and I found myself just continuing to return to Strange Cacti. Here’s hoping the next record sounds as good as this 7”.
“I couldn’t say it’s about love lost or found or whatever. It’s about many things, things that have happened to me, feelings I’ve had. Situations that have occurred to some I know. I think no matter how stable I am I will always be searching, I guess that’s what this album is about. The endless searching, the fruitless waiting, the idea of a home that is inside yourself.”
Get lost in the beauty of Angel Olsen’s voice. Her music manages to have this timeless feel, and I constantly imagine her playing guitar while singing softly on a porch in the mid west circa the dust bowl days.
Angel Olsen - Half Way Home LP is her debut full length and is available on vinyl from Bathetic here. Also do yourself a favor and look out for Strange Cacti now OOP on cassette and vinyl; that EP is effin brilliant.
Yup. So good. A couple of my buddies are positively drunk in love for everything Angel writes, and tracks like this will show you why.
I was about to write about this, but that ^^^ pretty much describes my feelings for Angel’s work. Strange Cacti remains my absolute favorite Bathetic release, a cassette (then vinyl) that seems like this fragile and beautiful piece on the verge of falling apart if you listened to it too many times. Literally puts me in a trance every time I listen. Drunk and With Dreams is one of the most beautiful guitar songs I’ve ever heard, and I never tire of it. I’ve been waiting for this full length ever since.
I’m drunk with anticipation.
Angel Olsen - Half Way Home 12” out 9/4 on Bathetic
Endearing, heartfelt, beautiful, epic folk music; intense and real.
Angel Olsen released an amazingly beautiful cassette via Bathetic Records maybe last summer. Strange CactiC24 Cassette was limited to only 100 copies which promptly sold out. Bathetic did a very out of character second pressing of an additional 100 cassettes which also disappeared equally quick. I was lucky to catch the second release, and excuse the unintentional lo-fi sound of this track because its a cassette rip from my copy.
Ok so now you can have the opportunity to experience this epic six tracker, on 45 12” vinyl as it should be. Srsly the cassette was one of my favorite releases of last year, I’d say on par with the The Sandwitches debut LP from a year before.
Pre-order herewhile you can for a mere $10 clams. This one is sure to follow the release pattern of nearly all of Bathetic’s OOP catalog.
