Peter Zummo - Song IV (Extract)

A little out of the box for usual material seen around here, but I do listen to a large selection of Jazz when I’m not blasting the latest Grimes 12”. This re-release of Zummo With An X on vinyl from Optimomusic caught my attention, particularly with all the rave reviews of the included track Song IV. Linked above is only an except from a newly remastered LP, which usually weighs in at just over 20 minutes. If you’re in to some mesmerizing minimalistic, experimental jazz then be sure to check the sample out. This was his first album, recorded in 1981 in a trio with Arthur Russell on cello and Bill Ruyle on tabla, highlighted by two lengthy minimalist suites Instruments (for duo, trio and quartet) and Lateral Pass. The reissue marks the first time this will be available since 1985.
Peter Zummo - Zummo With An X LP is out on 180g vinyl and Ltd to only 500 copies; it’s a goner. Available from my usual distro haunts including Norman Records, Piccaddily Records, or Rough Trade.
