half open The Bilinda Butchers

The Bilinda Butchers - Half Open

Another fantastic free digi single from Beko.  In Half Open The Bilinda Butchers create beautiful dreamscapes; foggy terrain amid vacant deserted structures stretches out, inviting you to get lost.  Beko usually showcases high quality artists, but these tracks, especially the a side stand out in particular.

I Wanna Meet Dave Grohl Wavves

Wavves - I Wanna Meet Dave Grohl

MTV just tweeted this shit at us, but I like it so I’ll post it anyway. “I Wanna Meet Dave Grohl” will appear on Wavves’ new LIFE SUX EP, out on September 20 on Ghost Ramp. ~ GVB

Hilarious and well said.  The new Life Sux EP features six new tracks from Wavves, including yet another featuring Best Coast.  Super Rad.

Not Thinking The Creepy Crawlies

The Creepy Crawlies - Not Thinking

Really diggin the couple tracks from The Creepy Crawlies that magically dropped into my inbox.  Fantastic band name.  Chris put it well himself,

The Creepy Crawlies songs could be summed up as a vain attempt to transform psychic pain into pop pleasure, turn feeling small into a wall of sound, and celebrate the tiny triumphs amidst tragedy (even if the triumph is solely one of denial).  Sometimes it’s just an excuse to rock out and shed our exoskeletons a little bit too.

These guys have an unabashed genuine pop sound, with some beautiful back & forth vocals between Chris & Kate.  It’s carefree playful nature brings me back to one of my most beloved and long dead bands, The Unicorns.  Let’s keep an eye on these guys, k?

You can download their cleverly entitled Denial is a Free EP from their bncmp for frees here

Romantic Streams SLEEP ∞ OVER

Sleep ∞ Over - Romantic Streams

Here is the last new track to surface just before the release of one of my most highly anticipated LPs of the summer.  Sleep ∞ Over’s Forever LP is entering the world via Hippos in Tanks next Tuesday, 8/27.  Honestly its been so long waiting in between various Sleep ∞ Over 7”s that if not for this track I might I have missed the boat.  Hippos in Tanks did such a bang up job of releasing the now OOP Sleep ∞ Over 7” on beautiful super heavy red vinyl that I new the 12” would be a beaut as well.

I am not disappointed in the slightest, drool your heart as Forever has been mastered at the legendary Dubplates & Mastering in Germany, and has been imprinted onto 180g glow-in-the-dark-vinyl.

Forgotten the notes

The Notes - Forgotten

Hey NOTES fans!   There is a new collection of songs from THE NOTES called Fearless. It features some new songs including never released instrumentals,  as well as some re-recorded “classics” from the Songbook recordings. Oh, and you can download it now for free. For reals.

The Notes put out a fantastic 2 x 10” debut release that seams to have mostly gone unnoticed from Bleeding Gold Records in the past 8 months or so.  Why has it managed to stay under the radar?  Not sure, its bloody fantastic.  Download their free release above for confirmation, then head over & pick up their record.

The Notes - Wishing Well 2 x 10” on either beautiful midnight blue vinyl or white/gold here

Take Me Anywhere Southern Shores

Southern Shores - Take Me Anywhere

Are you a fan of forgotten and over looked Air France from one of my favorite mysterious Swedish labels SY?  Seems almost like these guys might might have had a hand in Southern Shores.  Not to diminish the talent of Southern Shore, they certainly have a different sound, mostly stemming from added soul/funk/r&b sampling.  This depth really adds some fresh variety to their tracks.  I particularly love the dreamy 50s movie sampling in the above track…

Don’t you like it here?

I’m just not ready to settle down.

I’ll take you somewhere else?

You’re gonna find it very easy to take me anywhere.

Southern Shores - Atlantic 12”  out on Cascine available to purchase here for only 10 clams

You Let Me Down Sweet Lights

Sweet Lights - You Let Me Down

Love them guys over at Shaking Through; funding lesser known artists for one day of studio time to record one song, fantastic concept.  Just haven’t been really into a Shaking Through artist in a while.  Until now.  Sweet Lights has managed to create this beautiful retro soundscape, so layered with multiple instrumental and vocal parts that the result is quite beautiful sounding maybe circa ’60s.  Most impressive of all, Sweet Lights is the current solo project of Philadelphia-based musician Shai Halperin.  Solo, damn.
