Another fantastic free digi single from Beko. In Half OpenThe Bilinda Butchers create beautiful dreamscapes; foggy terrain amid vacant deserted structures stretches out, inviting you to get lost. Beko usually showcases high quality artists, but these tracks, especially the a side stand out in particular.

Really diggin the couple tracks from The Creepy Crawliesthat magically dropped into my inbox. Fantastic band name. Chris put it well himself,
The Creepy Crawlies songs could be summed up as a vain attempt to transform psychic pain into pop pleasure, turn feeling small into a wall of sound, and celebrate the tiny triumphs amidst tragedy (even if the triumph is solely one of denial). Sometimes it’s just an excuse to rock out and shed our exoskeletons a little bit too.
These guys have an unabashed genuine pop sound, with some beautiful back & forth vocals between Chris & Kate. It’s carefree playful nature brings me back to one of my most beloved and long dead bands, The Unicorns. Let’s keep an eye on these guys, k?

Here is the last new track to surface just before the release of one of my most highly anticipated LPs of the summer. Sleep ∞ Over's Forever LP is entering the world via Hippos in Tanks next Tuesday, 8/27. Honestly its been so long waiting in between various Sleep ∞ Over 7”s that if not for this track I might I have missed the boat. Hippos in Tanksdid such a bang up job of releasing the now OOP Sleep ∞ Over 7” on beautiful super heavy red vinyl that I new the 12” would be a beaut as well.
I am not disappointed in the slightest, drool your heart as Forever has been mastered at the legendary Dubplates & Mastering in Germany, and has been imprinted onto 180g glow-in-the-dark-vinyl.

The Notes put out a fantastic 2 x 10” debut release that seams to have mostly gone unnoticed from Bleeding Gold Recordsin the past 8 months or so. Why has it managed to stay under the radar? Not sure, its bloody fantastic. Download their free release above for confirmation, then head over & pick up their record.

Are you a fan of forgotten and over looked Air France from one of my favorite mysterious Swedish labels SY? Seems almost like these guys might might have had a hand in Southern Shores. Not to diminish the talent of Southern Shore, they certainly have a different sound, mostly stemming from added soul/funk/r&b sampling. This depth really adds some fresh variety to their tracks. I particularly love the dreamy 50s movie sampling in the above track…
Don’t you like it here?
I’m just not ready to settle down.
I’ll take you somewhere else?
You’re gonna find it very easy to take me anywhere.
Southern Shores - Atlantic 12” out on Cascine available to purchase herefor only 10 clams
Love them guys over at Shaking Through; funding lesser known artists for one day of studio time to record one song, fantastic concept. Just haven’t been really into a Shaking Through artist in a while. Until now. Sweet Lights has managed to create this beautiful retro soundscape, so layered with multiple instrumental and vocal parts that the result is quite beautiful sounding maybe circa ’60s. Most impressive of all, Sweet Lights is the current solo project of Philadelphia-based musician Shai Halperin. Solo, damn.
“Was I sleeping while the others suffered? Am I sleeping now? Tomorrow, when I wake, or think I do, what shall I say of today…Astride of a grave and a difficult birth. Down in the hole, lingeringly, the grave-digger puts on his forceps. We have time to grow old. The air is full of our cries…At me too someone is looking, of me too someone is saying, he is sleeping, he knows nothing, let him sleep on.”
The very long awaited (and now extended) The Years EP by Memoryhouse will debut on Sub Pop on 9/13. These guys became something of an overnight phenomenon when their Lately 7” took the internet by storm. Originally only 300 copies from Inflated Records, its been repressed many times over now and you can still nab a copy.
One of the very best releases from SY that flew under most everyone’s radar for an inexplicable duration of time is the very OOP EP, No Way Down fromAir France. Well only three years later, when I thought this was to be another one record wonder band that I hopelessly longed for a followup, we get the latest mp3 from Air France. Let’s hope there’s more to come along the lines of an LP. Fingers crossed.
"i remember when i was supposed to do the page which says "a city is not a home.." and i suggested a line beneath the text to make it more elegant. after one and an half hour of trying back and forth with different lengths of the line joel says
- maybe it should be hand drawn? and maybe it could break in the centre like it was drawn by someone in great mental pain? and i was like - nigga wut?”
just to make it clear why we had to wait for this. and why it was so fucking worth it.
I’ve had this one kickin around on my desktop for some time now, guess its bout time to share. Gross Magicis Brighton based dude Sam McGarrigle, and he’s currently self releasing a Teen Jamz EP. Started as a 7”, and gaining momentum its been upgraded to a purple 12”for higher fidelity. Ltd to 300 copies, his jamz are pure grungey pop, with Nirvana rifts set against a sweet pop vocals. Sounds like its straight out of 1991. If you’re down, pre-order a copy through his BndCmp here.
NewSleep ∞ Over oh joy! Since their debut very OOPOuter Limits 7” that kickstarted the Forest Family lineup, these kids have been on a non-stop roll of sick cassettes and 7”s. All their releases are very much sold out, and I imagine their LP will be no different if its limited in any way. The Casual Diamond 7” from Hp sold out quick with 1000 copies, and on heavy magenta wax its a beat (my copy was on repeat for weeks after receiving it). Keep an eye out for their Forever LP, out September 27 on Hippos in Tanks
