Nobody Knows You Summer Camp

Summer Camp - Nobody Knows You

I’d say this is the darkest tune from the new record.  A good one for this pre-Halloween hour.

I simply love Elizabeth’s voice, and after some heavy listening of the new record, I’ve come to a decision.  The album as a whole is delivering.  Yes yes, hands down.  But just the couple of tracks where Jeremy takes the lead singing…I hate to say I could just do without that.  Her voice is just too perfect and I simply identify Summer Camp as Elizabeth singing.  Srsly pick up your own copy of Welcome To Condale on vinyl from Amazon.uk here.

P.S. There’s currently only 5 copies left.  I’d say the demand for this on vinyl is way higher than they anticipated…

Summer Camp - Summer Camp

I can be a real serious bitch…if I don’t get what I want.

This one I had a bootleg of sometime last year maybe? Sounds so much better when its legit.  I absolutely love the sample voice over at the start.  With every listen the new album gets better.  Can’t wait for my vinyl, too bad I can’t bust it out at my Halloween shindig this weekend :( Guess I can’t always get what I want.

Also its snowing outside. Fucking real snowing, not bs fake flurry nonsense.  I live in NY not Iceland.  In my opinion snow is useless unless there’s enough for me to ride.  Guess we’ve having a white Halloween.  Hope your costume is warm.

1988 Summer Camp

Summer Camp - 1988

Brand newSummer Camp for yall!  Hot off the leaked what presses here’s a new unreleased one from their debut Welcome to Condale.  Now I like to pride myself as one of their biggest fans, entranced since I first heard I Only Have Eyes For You just two years ago as of the 16th.

P.S. iTunes is helpful for keeping track of those things with the date added tab.

So then came their 7”s, Ghost Train followed by super epic Round Moon.  Both are OOP so maybe a couple lucky fans will snatch up those last remaining amazon copies…I had high hopes for their debut full length and all I say right now is that most of the new tracks we haven’t heard are good but they’re not as immediately as captivating as these first singles.  Don’t get me wrong, this is a strong debut release, but its hard for bands to sometimes live up to their inter-tube hype after completing such perfect singles.

But when they get it right, like the voice over samples at the start of either I Want You, or Summer Camp, Summer Camp can tailor these pop gems to be perfect.  This is the the best pop music you’ve ever heard.  Overall I’m very pleased with the result, and even just now on my second listen I’m getting into the new tracks more and more.

I’ll probably go Summer Camp crazy the next couple days and keep posting new unreleased ones, so keep an eye out.  Seeing as they’ve run out of vinyl copies through their own pledge music deally, they were nice enough to post external distro links that now have their vinyl available for pre-order via amazonuk.  I kept demanding and pestering them about releasing on vinyl, and oh look now its on vinyl.  Thanks SC for listening to your fans.

Summer Camp - Welcome to Condale is available for pre-order on beautiful vinyl here.  Ships Halloween.

Nightlife Phantogram

Phantogram - Nightlife

I’d heard rumor of a new Phantogram ep floating around in the radio station last week, and oh look the rumors are true.  Glad to see my friends Josh and Sarah are still busting out new tunes.  This track in particular has been a favorite of mine from the past few shows, and I’m glad to see ti get a proper release.  This little Nightlife EP has some pretty stellar tracks, including the above mentioned and the very danceable Don’t Move, set to be a bro anthem for sure.  This deal drops on Barzuk November 1st, and unfortunately it looks like only on compact disc.

Meh maybe Barzuk will hook us up with wax too…

Nuclear Seasons Charli xcx

Charli XCX - Nuclear Seasons

Really loving this new dance club anthem from Charli XCX.  Feels like Marina & The Diamonds, but edgier, darker and set in an NYC alley circa 1980.  Very promising single from what’s sure to be buzz worthy newcomer.

Give me this on vinyl and I’ll dance all Halloween night long.

Cults Little Girls

Little Girls - Cults

This album/EP (?) by Little Girls is epic.  Clocking in at just under 23 minutes of dark, new wave snyth driven sounds, it leaves me craving more.  I’ve really enjoyed the variety of previous releases across the board from these guys including an OOP LP on Paper Bag, OOP EP on Mexican Summer, and various 7”s abound, but most importantly about this release, their sound is growing and improving in vast ways.

On their earlier recordings they have a super lo-fi fuzzed out, raw sound, and while I totally dig that along the likes of early Best Coast, cleaning up & polishing their sound has only improved their music for me.  Two years later they’ve added some snyths, cleaned up their act, and the result is something new wavish approaching Joy Division.  The result is instant success.

Really the only downside is that to order the vinyl you’ll have to shell out like $30 bones cause apparently shipping from Canada is a bitch (the record is only $14.99).  How its more than ordering from overseas I don’t know?

Little Girls - Cults out via Hand Drawn Dracula on Ltd edition red vinyl here

Trust me its worth the dough. Srsly.
